I have been pretty busy this week. My host mom got me signed up for a gymnastics class... Turns out, i do most of the teaching. The coach's just translate. It's a fun class.. (Gymnastics down here is a joke.)
I have also been running at the club everyday. I have been super sore, and rather tired in the mornings.
I went to a Rotary meeting last night, and I actually understood what someone said to me, IN PORTUGUESE!!! I think this a good sign! Also, I found out that there is a Rotary orientation this weekend! Yay for meeting new exchange students!!
Today, my host mom taught me some new words, I wrote them on cards, then we taped them up in the house! I learned escada (stairs), microondas (microwave), and lots more that I have already forgotten.
Also, in school today, we watched "Into The Wild" and it made me a little homesick, and that is the first thing that I completely understood in school... Which is rather sad if you think about English class here. (The English teacher speaks very poor English.)
Okay, I am going to watch "House" and read the Portuguese subtitles, hopefully learn something. (:
Tchau,
beijos.
Wow,
ReplyDeleteSyd you have been very busy I am glad to here you are starting to understand what people are talking about around you. "You are teaching the Gymnastics class" go figure all those years of classes are paying off. Now you need to take over the English class in school. I am sure you can teach English to the students better than the teacher, "Looks like a career in the making". I am so happy to see that Cecilia is working with you on your Portuguese and I am sure you are helping her with her English.
Watching House with Portuguese subtitles what a good idea why didn't we think of that.
Have fun this weekend at the Exchange Orientation I am sure you will meet people from all over the world, most of whom speak English better than anyone in your school.
Love you
Dad
P.S.
Looking forward to your next update. :)
Looks like you are starting to settle in to a good routine. How many people are in your gymnastic class? Try and find some gymnastic contacts for Loretta. Keep the post coming about once a week. Any more contact with your dad. Haven't talked to Julia in about a week. Love and miss you.
ReplyDeleteYour room is quite, especially after daddy unplugged your radio
