Okay, I survived the 3 day flight, Customs, Immigration, 4 days of school, and two Rotary events.
During which time I have figured out that: schools here are like prisons, I have a new friend named Casper (the ghost) from Denmark, Guarana is really freakin' good, this city is huge, annnnnnnd NOBODY here speaks English, so Portuguese is a MUST. So far, it's coming pretty well. I learned ow to say pineapple, ring, bus, and crayon.. I noticed that when learning a new language, the order in which you learn things is: "Hello", cuss words, random objects. (:
Sunday: Landed in Sao Paulo, had cheese bread and hot chocolate, went home, unpacked, showered, "Snappled" (Skyped) my mommy, and went to sleep.
Monday: Woke up had breakfast, went to school, came home, room was clean, lunch was made, ate lunch, did nothing the rest of the day.
Tuesday: Woke up, ate breakfast, went to school, went to the club, at lunch at the restaurant, looked around the pools and gym, came home, got ready for Roatary, went back to the club, signed up, went to Rotary, met lots of oldies, SAW FELIPE, met Casper, went home, slep.
Wednesday: Food, school, home, food, club, home, shopping, food. Lots and lots of food. (:
Thursday: Food, school, home, food, club, 19 hour nap.
Friday: NO SCHOOL! Food, club, home, food, movies (Inception), home, sleep.
Saturday: Bright and early start, went to set up for the Paella, went to host grandmas house for lunch, went shopping for the Paella, went to host moms friends moms house for cake and tea, came home, got ready for the Paella, went to the Paella, cam home, SLEPT.
And that was my week one. (:
Well,
ReplyDeleteIt certainly sounds like you had a very busy week and met lots of new interesting people. I am so glad that not many (no one) speaks English and you will be forces to learn Portuguese. You mom and dad seem to be very nice and where else can you go to school come home and your bed is made, laundry done and lunch ready for you to eat. If you keep on eating that much you will come back home FAT like me.
Love you have fun,
Dad
Paella?!?! explanation please.
ReplyDeleteDad: I will not come back fat because I go to the gym multiple times a week here, UNLIKE you! And when I go, I WALK there and back.. So therefore, I shall NOT get fat like you!
ReplyDeleteKristen: Paella is a Spanish seafood dinner thing.. aka, disgusting!
This is your dad's cousin in memphis, which means I am you second cousin. What an incredibly brave youg lady you are. I am enjoying reading your adventures. What a great opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you. Stay safe and enjoy yourself.
PS I like paella
i'm so glad you are having a good time. it makes us left behind feel safer about you, at least it does me :) and by the way, i wasn't complaining about pictures, i was just anxious to see some! thanks for posting them. looks like a nice place. keep up the good work and i feel better knowing you'll be able to have all the pineapple, ring, bus and crayons you can handle :p love ya!
ReplyDeleteSyd, we miss you here but I'm glad you're having fun there. You'll be fluent in Portuguese before you know it.
ReplyDeleteAs for paella, it can be delicious or disgusting depending on the ingredients. I LOVE seafood paella as long as there aren't any clams, mussels or oysters in it. Maybe you'll find a combination you like.
And thanks for starting a blog. It's not that we're nosy; we just want to experience a different culture through you. So the more details, the better! Like how are the schools like prisons? Were there subtitles on the movie? Stuff like that.
Have fun!!
Hey there Syd.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your having fun. I was trying to post a message or a few on some of your pic's. So what is the temp there? How many hours diff are you from the east coast of the usa. So glad you did make it there safe. Later girl.
